Episode 3 for Frederick Time: Guns, North Korea, Chrétien, Domains and more.

In case you’re wondering, I discuss:

  • The U.S. Supreme Court decision regarding the D.C. gun ban
The individual’s right to a handgun (for self-defence) is affirmed, and the ban is repealed.
  • Improved diplomatic relations in Asia, and North Korea begins dismantlement
China and Japan are improving relations; meanwhile, North Korea was removed from the U.S. blacklist.
  • Jean Chrétien is absolved of responsibility
Justice Gomery is criticized for bias, and Chrétien’s reputation is restored.
  • ICANN opens up new domain possibilities
Now there can be web sites with “search.google” as a domain name.
  • Proposed copyright law amendments

Thanks to George Wood.

This time, I have recorded the episode on a different computer, reduced the amount of editing and music involved, and gotten it out on the same day that I recorded. I also decided that the transcript would be too much of an inconvenience to produce.

At the same time, I am planning on moving Frederick’s Timelog to “frederickding.com”, which hasn’t yet been registered — but will be, within a week.

I recommend Website Magazine (digital and/or physical). It’s FREE! Subscribe today.

Here’s the first “real” episode for Frederick Time: Obama/Hezbollah/Guns/Linux.

In case you’re wondering, I discuss:

  • Obama’s refusal of public campaign funding
The general election won’t be as fair as one might expect; and his supporters seem blind to what he’s doing for his own gain. Discuss it!
  • Hezbollah’s alleged operations in North America
An international terror expert rebukes the claims that Hezbollah is planning to attack Jewish targets somewhere in Canada.
  • Gun control in Toronto
I think outlawing handguns in Toronto might actually be a good idea. Please discuss in the comments section.
  • OpenSuSE Linux 11

Thanks to George Wood and Kevin Macleod for their podcast-safe music.

The episode was actually recorded on Friday, June 20, but I spent a lot of time editing, selecting music, transcribing the content, etc. Not to mention that I was experimenting with MP3 format settings for the better part of today.

I think the next episode won’t take so long to get out; I’m researching already! (And if you have the time, please comment below, bookmark this post with Digg, StumbleUpon, etc, and/or subscribe to the podcast feed!)

Just a few days

June 21st, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Frederick Time

The first “real” episode of Frederick Time will be out within a few days; I’ve been recording and editing and selecting background tracks, and I haven’t fully gotten into it. Besides, the Audacity project already exceeds 250 MB — but don’t worry, the final compressed MP3 file won’t be big.

Anyhow, make sure that you subscribe to the podcast feed so that you can get the episode as soon as it’s released.

By the way, the “first” episode will actually be numbered at 002 as a result of the Teaser being numbered at 001.

Guantánamo Bay as of June 08

Gitmo detention centre

It seems like Bush’s popularity is ever decreasing. With the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling that the denial of habeas corpus to detainees at Guantánamo Bay is unconstitutional and that those prisoners have a right to challenge their imprisonment in the civilian courts, it’s no longer necessarily true that “the law doesn’t extend to Cuba”.

Though the rulings did not outlaw the prison outright, the rulings do somewhat approach the human rights issues that the U.S. is responsible for. And how has “Reporters Without Borders” reacted to this news? As of June 13, 2008, they haven’t, but still have half of their web site dedicated to attacking China and supporting the boycott of the Olympic games. Look at (click) this screenshot; do they even mention Guantánamo Bay?

Now, back on topic. This sort of decision is truly what the judicial branch of government is supposed to do: discuss the constitutional issues and re-think the policies of the executive and legislative branches. Unfortunately, Bush wants to bypass this ruling through an act of Congress.

And how does that make you feel?

This is an amazing piece of work by Ilias Sounas. This video is available in in 1080p (you’ll need a huge monitor and modern computer components to watch it in this version).

If you’re on a typical Internet connection, you might want to view it below or as a streaming QuickTime file.

Please enable Javascript and Flash to view this Flash video.

There’s also a 720p HD QuickTime file that you can download and show to your family or friends when you’re not connected to the Internet. This one is significantly smaller than the 1080p version available from Adobe.
