A spectacular opening ceremony

On August 8, 2008, in Graphic Matters, by Frederick

The normal episode for Frederick Time will either come out tomorrow or not at all this week.

I watched the spectacular opening ceremony for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing this morning. It was simply amazing.

Exceptional fireworks, amazingly coordinated dancers and artists (thousands of them!), excellent majestic music, and fabulous high-tech shows. Amazing!

Since I’ve categorized this under “Graphic Matters”, I might as well show you some pictures.

There’s more after the jump.

And things other than fireworks:

And the lighting of the cauldron:

Spectacular, isn’t it?

The New York Times has more.

Yes, yes, the pictures I’ve shown above are for the latter part of the opening ceremony. I’ll let all the people in the U.S. to watch the performances in the evening.

That reminds me: NBC is going to make billions from increased viewership as a result of their decision to televise the opening ceremony NOT LIVE, but with a 12 hour delay.

Even though I often am a critic of what the Chinese gov’t does, I have to say that the ceremony was brilliant. Definitely one of the best, and I congratulate the Chinese for putting on such a great show.
